In the Novel,The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahiri, Ashima allowed her grandmother to name her child. Since neither Ashima or Ashoke' s family have a telephone in India, she waited for her grandmother' letter. Ashima spends three days in the hospital and no letter came. As the hospital won't discharge the baby without a name, Ashoke decides to name him Gogol. After Asima and Ashoke return home;In November, they received a letter from Ashima's father dated three weeks before tells them that Ashima's grandmother has a stroke. When Gogol  turn one year old in August, Ashima and Ashoke planning a family visit to Calcutta in December. Then Ashima realized  that her dad died in a hard attack, and went to calcutta with her family feeling pretty blue.

i feel like people should always have a backup plan in life and never rely on people for a hundred percent sure because  people never know what the future will bring to them. For instance, according to the novel, The Namesake, Ashoke and ashima had difficulty to name their baby in the hospital  because they were rely on Ashima 's grandmother who lives in Indian to name him  while they are living in Boston. Through our life you can see that life doesn't always go to  our plan and that is reason why we always need a backup plan.
