THE NEW LITERACY

TECHNOLOGY CHANGING THE WAY STUDENTS LEARN

12 comments:

  1. 1. Do you feel that technology has changed or is changing the way people write? Use examples that you have seen, and support your ideas with details from the article.
    2. How do you perceive your intended audience when you write on a social networking site? What about when you write a school paper? What, if anything, changes when you put your thoughts into words for a class assignment versus "everyday" writing?

    1. i do believe that technology is changing people. i also think that it does have a little affect on the way certain people write. some people always write in slang because that's what there so used to do because there always on the internet posting things. other people can remember that there is a difference and that they cant write slang on everything. most people understand that if its an assignment thats for your professor then they know that they have to watch how they write and spell things out. but when your posting on somewhere like facebook or instagram they dont write in complete sentences or spell things the correct way. so i feel like technology does have a big affect on everyone but its up to you to understand and remember the difference between the two. also be sure to think about what it is that your writing before you hand it in or just post it up.

  2. Yes i feel technology has changed and is changing the way people write. I say this because due to social networks and online on a whole, gives people the chance to communicate more and express certain feelings openly through the net. A result of this is people writing more and becoming more verbal online instead of in a classroom or at work. For example students rather communicate more online because they have an audience. Others will see and read things they write and post.Compared to in a classroom where the only audience the student has is the teacher, which makes them less enthusiastic to write. I perceive my audience in a positive way when i write on a social network. I make sure i think wisely before i write and post something, even before posting a picture. I think highly of myself and would never down grade my morals for any social network. Even when people i know post outrageous pictures i question if they thought about it before they posted it. I am not one to judge but i wouldnt look at that person the same. When i'm writing a school paper a lot of thinking must take place before i can even start to jot down a rough draft. Everyday writing is much different for me. It just happens to flow more and come natural compared to if it were a school assignment i had to do.

    1. i totally agree with you. i feel the same way and i think that people do go out of their way to impress others. people have to realize that there's a difference from when your doing a class assignment and when your posting on a social network. now a days everything is about technology. that's the movement and motion of life right now. everything has to do with some new gadget and a new online website. people feel if they aren't involved with these activities that there not cool. everyone is doing the same thing and not thinking before they post things on the internet.

  3. The technology has been changing in our everyday lives, especially the way how we write. People are commonly using social network with online chatting, such as Facebook,Twitter, Myspace, etc. They are created a new writing style for the modern society, and also provides a lot of positive evidence and reinforce the writing skill for young people. As the result, many articles have talked about it. And some major university professors have exam students whose always write on the audience online chatting have a better writing skill than student whose don't use online chatting.
To intended audience when write on the social network site it makes writers have
less panic and feel free to express thoughts which can make clear and simple conclusion. When write a school paper, people are always worry about how to write can make it better with in limited time, for example, make a good structure, make a correct spelling, make a good point, and good time management. The pressure are the big concern. If we use the same way like using online chatting for the school work it definitely helps improve writing skill with feel free and simple mind.

    1. Yes,I feel the same way!school works are more serious, particularly the correct grammar and spelling are important as well. I believe social networking make people feel freer to write and tell people what your thoughts are, and also people can have discusses on a thing of different views and then learn things from others

  4. Yes,I feel that technology has changed,it brings a lot of conveniences to our lives today, and also, owing to smarts phones and social websites such as Facebook and Twitter are widespread in use, people write more often in short sentences and express their points on something for their readers as a routine. For example, Facebook increases communications between my friends and I and I update my status very often so that my friends can always know how I'm doing and talk to me, it also makes us stay in touch. In the article "New literacy" , the author mentions that students aren't interested in school assessments because it's not for their audiences but only for the professor, I'm totally agree with the author. Compare with school work, I feel so free to write my thought to readers when I post my comment on social networking websites, and I realize it makes me write more often than I did in the past. For me, school assessments need more time for myself to think well about how to write, it's not as easy as any comment posted on the socializing websites. But of course, it's a good idea to put the thoughts into words for school works. Even thought I update my Facebook status a lot, I also think well about my thoughts before I post them. It's a good way for me to do critical thinking and to be positive. I'm sure it helps me think more often about the society and it's good practices for class assessments.

  5. Yes I think technology affects more in people can fix their writing mistakes by computer, we don't need to worry anymore as in the past we have to look our book or dictionary to know the correct word...I think also people start to used more websites like Facebook or Twitter and write a lot all their feelings or their moods about how they are doing in the day which sometimes they used so many mistakes words or just a new word u never heard in the past or maybe some words it doesn't exist that people forget how to write in the good way.

Social network is more popular right now that I used sometimes and I share w my friends and family about my thoughts and I can have more communication at any time in special when they are far away. Sometimes I feel that I write more now than before so it helps me more to put in practice my writing .

  6. 1) 1) Do you feel that technology has changed or is changing the way people write? Use examples that you have seen, and support your ideas with details from the article.

In my opinion, technology has changed and will change the ways people write. For example, in time when people did not have computers they wrote everything on paper used handwriting.

Now it is wilder that people just print information. Another example, nowadays all information is online. There are huge values of any information and through the people minds this entire information passes. People have more thoughts about everything and they try to get just important things from all huge stream of information. People try to write just important things in shorter form. Also, conversations are online in chats. People use short words and they feel comfortable to write everything in chat. They write for auditory. Before computers time, they just wrote in schools, some letters on paper and used handwriting on their working places.

    2) 2) How do you perceive your intended audience when you write on a social networking site? What about when you write a school paper? What, if anything changes when you put your thoughts into words for a class assignment versus “everyday” writing?

For me it is not important where I write. If I write something on a social networking site is the same style how I write in my school papers. It can be different just about topic of this writing. But in my case it is usually the same things.

  7. Yes i think technology has changed the way people write, specially in texting the abbreviation and symbol are really a cool and it is a rapid method. Moreover Lunsfor had admit that" technology is not killing the ability of write. It's reviving and pushing our literacy in bold new direction".
When i write in social network i used a lot of symbol and abbreviation sometimes write stuff who does not even make sence the audience like it and others comment under the post but they said nothing serious. Compare with writing paper class only one audience it's require more effort and you get a positive comment back that help you improving your writing. Sometime i made some gramar mistakes because i have trouble remembering how some words write because of the everyday life social writing.

  8. I agree with this idea.Technology not only affects our lifestyle but also has changed our writing way. We are in the midst of a writing revolution, we always use social networks when we want to write. It gives us more chance to write. People write their idea without regulation, in other words, nobody control our writing even their values and belief. It makes us to write freely and incresingly.

When we use social network, we may write briefly and briskly. Due to the informal, We can use anywords on the site. We also share the idea with others. On the other hand, school assignment has less communication than social network.
